Beverage Review #6

Posted in Food/Beverage with tags , , , , , on June 7, 2011 by Jason

After my hunting through a village-wide garage/yard sale, I hit up my local gas station/convenience store.  I had stopped in to take advantage of their 2 for $2.50 Mtn Dew/Pepsi 20 oz. deal(that’s actually an everyday price), and pick up 2 bottles of Pitch Black.  One of the guy’s who owns the store informed me that they had a new soda in(I am the reason they carry Pitch Black).  I took a second look, and sure enough I spotted it.  Amongst all of the green, orange and brown, I spotted blue!

Is there a flavor of Crush that isn’t available?!  I, for one, would like to see a sour apple variety.  Seeing this was a no-brainer,  If the beverage is blue, and won’t kill me I’ll give it a whirl.  Pepsi Blue is the only blue soda that I didn’t like.  But then again, I made that judgement from a single bottle.

I give it a 10 out of 10 on appearance alone!  Taste wise, it’s pretty good.  It reminds me of the blue variety of Hubba Bubba they had back in the day.  It’s sweet with a little bit of a sour at the end.  I do really like it.  I’ll give it a solid 8 out of 10.  It’s good, but I couldn’t drink this all the time.  If you see it, it’s worth a try.  It’s no Pitch Black, but it’s definitelty worth a try.

Beverage review #3

Alright!  This one has been a long time in the making.  The long fable third Beverage review.  This is the last remaining can of the beverages I brought back from Ohio.  Now, I had never had nor have I ever heard of this mysterious drink.  I saw this in the store, but didn’t even contemplate getting it.  I just wanted to get my two twelve pack of Barq’s Red Creme Soda(the last 2 on the shelves).  When the cashier rang me up, he asked, “You wanna get 2 more?  They’re on sale 4 for 10 bucks.”  So, I said “Yeah.  I’ll be right back.”  I had to decide quick.  So I grabbed a twelve pack of Barq’s Root Beer and a twelve pack of a non native to NY of the stuff right next to the root beer.  Here is that non native soft drink.

I’m not sure if it’s ALE 81 or ALE eight one.  At first I thought this would taste like a horrible beer like drink.  I was totally wrong.  It’s actually like ginger ale, a smoother seemingly less carbonated like ginger ale.  Maybe I’m just a little slow and I should’ve surmised that the name of the drink was a description of the drink’s actual flavor.

It’s a nice champagne colored soft drink.  One thing I noticed about ALE 81(that’s what I’m calling it), is that it lacks the bite of say, Seagram’s ginger ale.  I frankly, was not impressed.  So, my fiancee ended up drinking the majority of it.  One last thing, look above the logo on the can…there’s a slogan that says, “A late one.”  Maybe I should’ve drank it late at night.  Or maybe I should’ve mixed it with some liquor.  This my friends, does not get my recommendation.

Beverage review #2

Today I will review one of my all time favorite sodas.  I don’t know if this is considered cheating, because I have had this so many times.  The only difference is that, you already know is this beverage is gonna get my recommendation.  So let’s meet our friend, shall we?

Here we have Barq’s Red Creme Soda.  In the last review, I briefly mentioned my love of this soda.  Maybe the reason I like it so much is that it isn’t readily available anywhere in my surrounding area.  Anytime I travel to Ohio(I have a lot of family out there), I always make it a point to drink beverages that are not native to my state.  You may be thinking what makes this creme soda better than any other?  First it’s the red liqid, and second is the taste.  This is not to be confused with Big Red soda.  In my opinion, they taste nothing alike.  Big Red tastes more like bubblegum.  That’s not a bad thing.  This soda taste like a sweet creme soda with a little bit of the bubblegum flavor.  And it’s bright red!  This was the last remaining can, and I it has survived since I returned on July 5.  It’s 23 brothers were quickly dispatched.

I guess I don’t need to say it, but I will.  If you like creme soda or the color red, I would say to give it a try.  It doesn’t have the trademark “Barq’s Bite”, but it’s creme soda, and it’s supposed to be smooth.  I’m drinking the last of it now, and I’m a little sad.  So we’ll look at something that will make us happy!

Over the weekend my friend Chris(we call him Clarkinator), gave these to me as a late birthday gift.  He has had these M.U.S.C.L.E men since he was a kid.  When he showed them to me a couple of years ago, I was like are you giving them to me to add to the collection?  Unfortunately, he just found them in his closet and thought I would appreciate them.  Just before he moved back from Florida this past May, he had asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and immediately  I said “How about them M.U.S.C.L.E. men?”  And he said, “When I find them.”  Well, this past Saturday he came by and went into his pocket and tossed them to me one by one.  I said thank you and he informed me that he kept a few, but that’s cool because now I have some of these guys in my toy collection.
