Archive for Game boy

Teaser

I decided that I wanted to do a single post to showcase the toys I acquired from the auction last weekend.  The pictures have been taken, but I just haven’t been able to write the post to accompany them.

But I did realize that I didn’t take any pictures of the video game stuff I was able to add to the collection.

There wasn’t much, as I didn’t need most of it(Dean needed everything though).  But there were a few things that I didn’t have.

007

A lot of decent pretty good games came in this lot, and all but Tetris had their manuals included.  What you see above is my take from the lot.  I put batteries in the Game Boy, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to power up.  For the most part, the GB is pretty clean, but there looks to be a little bit of corrosion on part of the battery connections(?).  For $15, it was worth the chance.  But we got more than our money’s worth with the games and manuals(not to mention the carrying case), that came with the Game Boy.

Hopefully, I will be able to get the toys up in the next day or 2.  There is a lot of great stuff, and I’m excited to give them their due.

New Old-School Additions

Happy Easter!

Yesterday I happened upon some fine new additions for my NES, and Game Boy collections.

As you can see, most of these were marked to sell for $10 each.  I ended up being able to snag all of them with the PS1 memory card for $20!  Tetris is the only game in the lot that I already had.  Excellent deal!  I ended up beating Super Mario Land in one sitting last night.

But I also managed to find a good deal on some games for my NES collection as well.

These were only $3 each.  There were a few others I could’ve used for the collection, but these were the best of the bunch in my opinion.  There was also a very nice looking Zelda cartridge(mint!), but I already have it(maybe I should pick it up if it’s there on my next visit).  All of these games are games that I haven’t previously(I may have played Code Name Viper) played before, so that’s a plus.

But, there was also something in the box of games that was also $3.  And it was previously devoid from my collection as well(surprisingly).

I picked this up before I even looked at any of the games.  This gives me a reason to play every single NES game that I own.  Though it came it’s original box, it is missing the code book.  I’m sure I’ll have no problem finding codes.  I’m surprised it took me this long to finally get a Game Genie.  Maybe I was holding out to find one still in the box(always a plus).

But this is probably my favorite thing about it.

No wonder my dad never bought us one!  And that’s marked down by $35!  I really dig the old Electronics Boutique logo.

Albany Comic-Con 2011

So, about a week and a half ago, I attended the Albany Comic-Con(this was my wife’s anniversary gift to me 🙂 ).  I’m not sure if this was it’s inaugural event or if it’s an annual thing.  This year was the first time in the 8 years I’ve lived here, that I have heard about it.

I’ve been to a few conventions in NYC before, and they were a pretty decent size.  This one was smaller, but it definitely had it’s charm.  To give you an idea, it was held in a Holiday Inn, and had two dealer and guest rooms.  There were a few different panels as well.  I attended the panel discussing action figure sculpting and creating.

There was a pretty big turnout, and there were many deals to be had(every dealer I met with was friendly and reasonable).  I won’t bore you to death with all the details, so we’ll get to the pictures.  Most of them are Star Wars related, but I’m pretty sure that’s okay with most of you.

All of the Star Wars costumes were top notch, and made up 60%-70% of the cosplaying crowd.  The Tusken Raider(or Sand Person) above, was one of two who even had sound effects and music playing(concealed within their costume and accessories) that were related to their character.

Now to the loot!

But before we get to that…I just want to show a few games that came in the mail around the same time I went to the convention.

Ultima isn’t a great game, but it’s an RPG that I have fond memories of.  I already have this game in my collection, but I got a great deal on a complete copy(the box is mint).  Wario Land:Super Mario Land III, is one of my all-time favorite Game Boy games.  This was another great deal that also included the game case and instruction manual.  I only realized that it was a foreign language manual when I got it in the mail.  Game Boy games are region-free, so it works fine on my Game Boy.  And the manual is not necessary for me to play this game.

And now to the Comic-Con loot!

That Punisher comic is one of my favorite comic book covers, and it was also the very first back issue I bought when I first got into comics.  The Marvel Universe is part of a series of of pages with pre-punched holes to be put into a 3 ring binder as a sort of reference book.  Both of those were 50 cents each.  The Jason goes to Hell was a bargain at 50 cents, considering it still has the cards in the sealed bag.  I don’t mean this to sound like it’s worth much.  I’m just a huge Friday the 13th fan, and getting a comic book and trading cards of Jason for 50 cents is great!  I have no idea about the Redfox comic.  But it was 50 cents, and I thought the cover looked pretty neat, so I took a chance.

The New Warriors was one of the titles I was heavily into when I first got into comics(along with The Punisher, Avengers West Coast and Marvel Comics Presents).  I couldn’t pas up the first issue for a dollar.  In my current collection, I don’t have any other New Warriors books.  I’m hoping I’ll like it as much as I did back then.  What The..?! is a parody of Marvel characters by Marvel.  It was done by Hilary Barta, who I have mentioned before.  I love his cartoony style and at 50 cents, I promptly snatched it up.  The 2 G.I. Joe and the Transformers comics were a buck a piece.  The first one is a Marvel one from the eighties, and the second one is an Image one from 2003(this one is actually G.I. Joe vs. Transformers).  It’ll be great to read all of these.

One seller had a bunch of polybagged issues of Wizard from the early days of the now-defunct “guide to comics”.  I picked out a fairly early issue that included some pretty cool premiums.  To the right, we have a press kit for the movie The Crow.  This is my all-time favorite movie.  This is a very cool find!  It has black and white 8×10 photos, 5 film stills and a press release about the movie, the actors and various other things pertaining to the movie.  I had no problem dropping the ten dollars the seller was asking for it.  Also pictures are 3 packs of trading cards.  The seller was selling certain packs of trading cards at 3 packs for $1.00.  The 3 packs I chose were The Worst From MAD, The Valiant Era and Adventures in Toon World.  I’ll be saving these packs, and may do a post where I open them and see what they contain.

And here is the star of  my purchases.

The Reveal the Shield line of Transformers has been virtually non-existent in my area.  I’ve barely see any of this line with in an hour’s drive of me.  And this was the first time that I saw any of the “Legends Class’ figures.   The dealer I bought this from had all of the Legends Class figures from this line, and if money wasn’t an object I would’ve bought them all.  Starscream is the next on my list if I can find him at a decent price.  Megatron cost me 7 bucks(not too bad), and Starscream was the same.  I just didn’t have the disposable cash at the time.

I think the figure looks great, and is a great representation of the G1 Megatron that we all love.  But I do have a few gripes about this figure.  The first will be apparent in the next photo.

That is one hell of a paint error!  I wish I would’ve noticed this before I bought it, or else I would’ve bought the other available Megatron(as long as the paint was better).  My second gripe is the rub sign almost came off.  It’s a sticker, and it was moving when pressure was applied to it.  I may have to super glue it to the figure to make sure it’s not lost in the future.

And my final gripe…

Is the orange cap on the barrel necessary?!  The original G1 figure was made of die-cast metal and was a full size gun, so I can understand the confusion in mistaking it for a real gun.  But is there any chance that anyone would confuse this tiny, very plastic looking toy for a real gun?

Still, I’m happy to add this Megatron to the collection.  And I’d say he’s worth picking up if you can find him.

Jboypacman Strikes Back, and…

Posted in Memories, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Toys, Video Games with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 18, 2011 by Jason

Long time no see.  It seems as though when we hit summer time, I am hardly in the house.  And when I am, I find myself being as lazy as possible.  And these are the reasons why I’ve been scarce on the ‘net these days.  But, lets get to the reason I’m writing tonight.

Jboypacman from Revenge from the Cosmic Ark and Invader from the Cosmic Ark sent me another care package full of wonderful toys and other stuff.  And here’s what was in the box.

Oh!   Where to start?!

Here we have a mini Guitar Hero LCD game.  I’m a fan of the video games, but I can predict that I’m gonna suck at this version(too small for my hands).  The Garbage Pail Kids are from some of the more recent releases from 2004 and 2005.  I have a whole lot of these, and I’m pretty sure there’s a few from the ones Jboy sent that I need.  Also pictured is the Transformers : Dark of the Moon novelization.  Having seen the movie, and not being too big on books, I can’t promise that I’ll eventually read this.  But it’s still cool, none-the-less.

First up, is a sweet Captain America Mega Bloks’ mini figure.  I never even knew they made these!  This is a nice addition to the other Mega Bloks Marvel Universe figures that I already have.  I think it looks fantastic considering how small these guys are.  The car is a Hot Wheels Classic Packard.  I’ve seen cars like this, but never had a name to go with them(see, toys are great learning tools).  Also, we have a sumo wrestler Lego mini-figure.  Not much to say about the sumo, other than it’s a pretty sweet addition to my slowly growing mini-figure collection.

And here are my favorites!

I’m sure any of you frequent readers know that I’m a huge TMNT fan.  And Jboy sent me 2 figures that I needed.  First is Super Shredder, who you may remember from TMNT II : The Secret of the Ooze.  In his hands is Krang, which is great, because the one that currently sits in my collection has a tentacle that’s broken off.  Rounding out the trio is Charbroil figure from the “G.I. Joe : The Rise of Cobra” line.  Excellent(picture me saying that in my best Mr. Burns voice).

Jboy also sent me a sweet Thundercats shirt.  I did a short post about it when I bought the same one a few months ago.  If you are interested, I will be holding a give away for this specific shirt(details at the end of this post).  Thank you Jboy for everything!!!

I’m sure you noticed the “And…” in the title of this post.  And that’s because I have more to show you.

In the past week I have been the winner of several Ebay auctions(it seems like such a long time since I bid on anything).  Today, the first of many packages arrived.  And it happened to be something that was on my 2011 Toy Collecting Goals list.

On my Toy Collecting Goals for 2011 list, I listed that I wanted to add any Jawa figure to my collection.  Coincidentally, I owned these exact 2 figures many years ago.  Both the Jawa and the Gonk Droid were packaged together when they were released.  And the action I won had both figures and the Jawa’s blaster still in the plastic tray that was originally on the card.  So I got 2 awesome figures to add to my small Star Wars collection.  I have to say that I love the light-piping job they did on the Jawa(he glowing eyes look awesome in the right light.

But that’s not all!  I also added some more great games to my ever-growing video game collection(again).

For $3.99 each, I got both of these games complete with dust sleeves and their instruction manuals.  I have never payed Dirty Harry before, but I hope that a game that stars Clint Eastwood is a decent play-through.  Seicross, on the other hand, I have fond memories of.  My brother and I used to play this game for hours with my dad.  For some reason I always think of Mag Max when I think of this game.  I’m pretty sure that we ended up getting both Seicross and Mag Max at the around the same time.  Now, at over 20 years later, I’m not sure how it’ll hold up, but it should be a good time playing it after all these years.

These games are not all that special, but I got them for 25 cents each at the local video game store.  NHL hockey is my favorite sport, and I love the games that were released on the second gen. systems.  I recently bought cables and a controller for my Genesis, so I’m amped to start playing games for that system again.

These two TMNT games for Game Boy kick ass, and I also have fond memories of these.  We went camping last weekend, starting on Friday(the day that I bought the games), and I ended up completing both games in the span of 24 hours(my wife is now addicted to playing the first one).  These are really fun games to play.  Of course the graphics aren’t on par with today’s hand helds, but the “fun-factor” is definitely there.  I absolutely love these games.

That’s all for now, and now for your chance to win the Thundercats t-shirt that Jboy sent me.  Below, I will ask 2 Thudercats(from the original series) related questions, and out of the correct answers, I will randomly draw a name.  I will contact the winner by e-mail to get shipping info and mail it off.  Good luck!

1.)- What is the name of the Thundercats’ home planet, AND what is the name of the planet they inhabit after they escape from their home planet?

2.)- Besides Panthro, Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra, Jaga, Wilykit and Wilkat, who are the other 3 Thundercats, whose action figures now command a large sum of money on the secondary market?
