Recent Toy Show Score

Posted in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Toys with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 24, 2013 by Jason

Last Sunday was the annual toy show in Albany.  I went last year, and found some pretty good stuff(you can read about it here, here and here).

It’s a small affair, but there are plenty of deals to be had.  There were a few more vendors then there were last year, and about twice as many people in attendance.

Below are my action figure scores.  I also purchased a handful of packs of older trading cards, but that’s for another time, and another blog.

147

Everything you see above, cost me a total of $16!  Not a bad deal at all!

Lion-O was originally priced at $8, but I was able to get the seller down to $6.  He came with his claw shield, but it looks like one of his eyes could be burnt out.  The seller and I were unable to confirm this, which is why we agreed $6 would be fair.

Snout Spout, Sgt. Bananas and Robocop were purchased in a lot deal for a total of $5.

Snout Spout’s head is incredibly loose, and his legs are very loose at the hips, but I’ve wanted to add him to the collection for a while, so this one will be fine as a placeholder.

Robocop is from the Robocop and The Ultra Police line.  He is missing his gun, but he does have his helmet, which is missing almost all of the time.  If I can find strip caps(is that the right phrasing?), I’m sure the cap-firing action will still work.

Sgt. Bananas is in almost pristine condition, and he’s not a figure I have come across in the wild.  He’s one of the more wild looking figures, and fits my collecting focus for old-school TMNT(which is secondary characters).  The only variant Turtles I’d like at this point, are the cartoon Turtles and the Movie Star Turtles.

And lastly, we have the Cobra Viper from the 1990 G.I. Joe Sonic Fighters line.  This was a steal at $5(there was no need to haggle here), since he is complete.  Not only is he complete, but the batteries were still in the backpack, and the sounds still work!  The sounds are pretty generic, but it’s still a pretty awesome feature.  Had I known that the backpacks still worked, I would have bought the other Sonic Fighters he had(all were only $5, and they were all complete).  This came from the same seller I got Shockwave from, and this guy has great prices, and all of his figures are complete.

Yard Sale Finds #13

Posted in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Toys, Video Games, Yard Sale Finds with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 4, 2012 by Jason

Well, this weekend was supposed to be a pretty decent weekend for yard/garage sales.  But the friggin’ rain ruined it!  There were two different towns that were having village-wide garage sales, and the rain seemed to make many people change their minds.  The people were out looking for the sales, but there were far fewer sales than I have seen in past years.

There were some deals to be had, and I even passed on a few items.  But we’re here to talk about what I was able to come home with.

There were tons of PS1 games for sale, but many of them were missing the instruction manuals, so they were of no real interest to me.  While this game is nothing special, but I am a hockey fan and I am a PS1 fan.  75 cents was about what I was willing to pay for it, so it was a good deal for both sides.

I know the above three items don’t look like much, but all three were mine for 25 cents!  The Officer Big Mac car is made by Ertl, but I’m not sure if it was a Happy Meal premium or sold in stores.  It’s marked 1984 and has the Ertl logo on the bottom, and the pull-back action still works like new.  I can never say no to either series of McDonald’s Changeables(the robots or dinosaurs), as long as I don’t already have them.  And obviously, I didn’t previously have this one.  The McDonald’s Happy Meal box is iconic, and this is a pretty neat toy.  The pack of NBA trading cards is a premium that was inserted into boxes of Drakes Cakes back in 1992.  I remember this promotion, as I was heavily into trading cards at the time(NHL, NBA and non-sports).  This is something you don’t see everyday, and I couldn’t pass it up.  I will not open them, but John Stockton is the top card, so that’s not half bad.

And now, the action figures.  I passed on Tabe from Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos because he was really dirty and was pretty much naked.  Even for $1, I just couldn’t make the purchase.  I also passed on a Transformers Animated Ultra Magnus.  But I had reasoning behind why I didn’t grab it.  I like the look of the Animated figures, and Ultra Magnus looks cool.  But When I picked him up, he was in robot mode, and I wasn’t sure if anything was missing.  It was $3, so it wasn’t too big a risk, but room is at a premium right now, and he is one of the larger figures from the Animated line(probably taller than my Voltron).  I’ll grab it next year if the old woman still has it, as I make it a point to visit her set-up every year(she always ahs a ton of action figures).

These three came from the old woman I briefly mentioned above.  And they cost her usual $1 per figure, of which I had no qualms of paying.  I found the Beetlejuice figure on my second time through(my first from the line).  Whiplash is a little dirty, but that will not be a problem that can’t be solved with a little soap and warm water.  And Fugitoid looked to be in pretty good shape, and you know I’m always looking for new additions to my old-school TMNT collection!

I spent a total of $4 on the day(everything you see above), so I didn’t do too bad.  I just wish that we didn’t get all the rain we did, because there would have been at least 3 times as many sales as there actually was.  But still a fun hunt nonetheless.

Yard Sale Finds #12, Dino-Riders & Reppin’ “The Pizza”

Has it been a week?

Well, the Rangers got eliminated from the conference finals on Friday(I’m a big fan of the Rangers, and they had a great season), so I’ll probably be posting stuff more often now.  This past weekend was pretty good for yard sales.  But surprisingly, there weren’t nearly as many as there usually are, considering it was Memorial Day weekend.  I did pretty good, and only spent a total of $5!  The bad news is that I only took 1 picture of everything together, and didn’t get any up close shots, as I had already put the things in their respective(new)places.  So here it is!

Not bad.  The Game Boy Pocket was only 2 bucks(it works), and Paperboy was included!  “The Empire Strikes Back” Burger King glass was a steal for a mere quarter.  I’ve been a fan of those little fuzzy googly eye things(not sure if they have a formal name) since I was a kid, and a kit where I can make as many as I want for only 50 cents?!  Sold!  The Flower(from Bambi), figure was in a “free” box at one of the sales, as was the Deiner dinosaur eraser.  Some of these can fetch some good money, but I’m not planning on getting rid of it.  The Pee Wee’s Playhouse Christmas special was 75 cents, and I found it at the same sale that I found my favorite items.  Skeletor, Bruise Brother and the Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos figure were only 50 cents each!  These are the things I specifically look for when I’m out yard saling.  And they’re getting harder and harder to find in the wild.  The Madball(Bruise Brother), is definitely my find of the weekend.  Now, he is displayed right next to Touchdown Terror.

And check these out!

Now, I don’t plan on opening these.  But I do plan on doing a post with some more insight on these great little figures.  I got both of these together for $15 including shipping(do a search on Ebay right now, and you should be able to get them for $9.99 each with free shipping.  She has 6-8 packs of each different 2-pack).  I’ll save the story for when I do a more detailed write-up.

And reppin’ “The Pizza”!

If you have never read the words of The Surfing Pizza, get on it now!  “The Pizza” is one of my favorite blogs that I regularly read.  Pizza’s writing is far better than anything I’ve ever written.  And if you like what you read here, you’ll be a fan of “The Pizza”.  Recently Pizza got a batch of stickers promoting(is that the word I’m looking for?)The Surfing Pizza, and was sending them to anyone who wanted one(not sure if he has any left, but here’s the link).  He sent me 2, and the one you see above is on my car.  Get yours today!

I’ll be back in less than a week this time.  Ha!  I’ll try anyway.  :)

Cool Toy Show Pick-Up #1

Posted in Toys with tags , , , , , , on April 24, 2012 by Jason

I always thought Trap Jaw was one of the coolest and meanest MOTU villain.  I ended up scoring this guy for $4(originally marked at $6).  He stands very well, and will make a nice addition to my Masters of the Universe collection.  He will join my other villains Skeletor and Mantenna.  The only heroes I have are Buzz-Off and Rokkon(he’s on my Transformers and robots shelf though).  I really need to get a He-Man figure for the collection(2 actually, as I really want to get a Thunder Punch He-Man as well).

More to come soon.

Another Package From Jboypacman, and Wilykat

Posted in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Toys, Trading cards with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 16, 2011 by Jason

A few days ago, I received another care package from Jboypacman.  And if you have ever gotten a package from Jboy, you know that it’s going to be awesome!

I was only expecting the Double Dragon figures, but Jboy always sends some extras.  I seem to be getting a lot of toys these days, and sometimes I get stuff that doesn’t fit my collecting habits.  So I will be contacting some of you guys, to share the wealth.

Besides the Garbage Pail Kids cards and the MOTU mini-comic, here’s what else I will be keeping for my personal collection.

First up, we have Snake Eyes, from the 25th Anniversary line of G.I. Joe.  He is the first loose figure from this line fro me.  I have Storm Shadow(v1), and Cobra Commander(helmet), from this line, but they’re still MOC.  Next to him, we have Billy Lee and Jimmy Lee of Double Dragon fame.  I know there was a horrible movie based on Double Dragon, but I think these figures tied into a short lived animated series.  Anything based on video games from my childhood(especially toys), is a win in my book!  If past failures are any indication, I bet the cartoon sucked.  And rounding out the group of keepers is Dirtbag from the old-school Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line.  It sucks that I have to type that out.  But in my mind, TMNT refers to the Turtles post-2000.  He is the latest addition to my ever-growing collection of the original line.  This is a most welcome addition, as I’m trying to avoid getting all the variations of the Turtles themselves.  Dirtbag is in the category of my current focus for this collection.  I have a few ideas of who I want to send the extras to, and I’ll get ahold of you guys soon.

Today my wife and I celebrated our1 year wedding anniversary.  But we wanted to go out for our anniversary.  So we went out Friday night, because a Friday is a lot more fun than a Sunday.  We went to Red Lobster, and guess what?  A Toys R Us was on the way.

In my last post, I raved about the new Thundercats line.  Well, on Friday night, I picked a few more up.

Here’s the first of them.

In my last post I told you that these 4 inch figures retailed for $7.99.  And while that’s true, you will notice a $8.99 price tag on the Wilykay above.  This is because I bought this from a Toys R Us Express in the mall.  If you are familiar withTRU Express, you know that these stores usually occupy the space that KB Toys used to.  Now, my guess would be that the prices are a little higher in the Express stores, because they have smaller amounts of inventory, and most people hit the stand alone stores.

I first saw this toy at The Toy Museum, and knew I had to add it to the collection.  I do plan on getting the complete set, but I’ll have to get one or two at a time, whenever I have a little extra cash.  But after reading Dan’s review, and checking out the photos, I knew he would be one of the first figures that I would purchase.

The only articulation is in his neck and shoulders.  Which isn’t too bad, considering that the originals had no articulation(the ones that came with Tyrga and Cheetarah).  I know that there were versions of Wilykat and Wilykit that were sold individually, that had more posability, but I never saw or knew of them in my youth.

Again, the likeness to the cartoon is great, and the accessories, while limited, are sufficient.  His board has hidden guns and, what looks to be a scissor-like apperatus in the front.  Also included, are two claw-type weapons.  I have to say that I am quite pleased with the line thus far.  I can say with certainty, that we will be seeing more of these guys in the future.

And here’s the team so far.

Transformers Generations Scourge and recent Ebay wins.

Posted in Toys, Transformers with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on August 25, 2011 by Jason

Another day, another Transformer.

I have to say that I have been impressed with the Generations line thus far.  There are quite a few I didn’t get, but very few that I didn’t like.  The figure we’ll be looking at today, was one I initially didn’t want.

Scourge wasn’t on my want list, but like most times, the ones I truly want are never on the pegs.  Don’t get me wrong.  I think he looks pretty good in bomber and robot mode.  And the white and blue paint job is pretty sweet!

This ended up being a real pain in the ass for a level 3 transformation.  Everything is well hidden and fits together so well, you don’t really see any of the robot when it’s in vehicle mode.  And as we know, the directions did jack shit to help me with the transformation process.  But about 20 minutes after I decided not to try and follow the directions, I finally got it!  And the results are very nice.

As always, I think the robot mode looks awesome!  This is one of the few figures that looks okay with the robotic facial hair.  It didn’t translate too well in Revenge of the Fallen, but this looks okay.  And he still manages to look like a pretty bad-ass Decepticon.

I found him at Target, and there were a few Wheeljacks and Thundercrackers as well.  It figures that after i find the toys I really want after hunting for them, that they would be in steady supply shortly after.

Over the past week or so, I have been the winner of a few auctions on Ebay.  After the ones we’ll see today, I only have one more that I’m waiting on.  And that’s the one I’m most excited about.  You’ll see when it finally arrives.

I don’t have a very big collection of He-Man figures, but there are quite a few figures I would like to have in my collection.  Mantenna here, is one of those figures.  When I was a kid, I thought this figure was awesome just because of it’s feature to raise and lower his eyeballs.  Being part crab(is that correct?), and having multiple limbs probably figured into it as well.  I don’t know if the crossbow is the correct accessory, but it came with the figure.  He stands well on his own, and his eyeballs have very little wear(a big plus with this figure).

This here, is Dirty Dog.  One third of the Puppet Land Band from Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.  I already have Cool Cat, now I just need Chicky Baby to complete the band.

And lastly.

I got a few more games to add to my SNES collection.  None of these are rare or stellar games, but they’re fun and they were priced right.  I never played Buster Busts Loose(at least I don’t think I did).  But coming from Konami, I’m pretty sure it’ll be a fun play-through(and it’s CIB, so it’s a win-win).  Bill Laimbeer’s Combat Basketball came out during the SNES’s first year.  I know I’ve played it, but I have no recollection of it.  Super Pinball:Behind the Mask was popular game in my household in it’s day.  I haven’t played it since, but I remember ir being a great pinball simulation, and it was addicting as hell!  I’ll give ‘em all a shot this weekend.

The Unveiling

Posted in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Toys, Yard Sale Finds with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 10, 2011 by Jason

So you got a sneak peek of the contents of the box of stuff that found it’s way into my possession Saturday afternoon.  I won’t keep up the suspense any longer!

This past Saturday I had to attend the baby shower for one of my friends(his woman).  We were playing some beer pong in the garage, and I got a phone call.  It was another one of my friends, who happened to be garage saling at the time. He asked if I would be interested in certain action figures, I ran off a few lines and he arrived at the house a short time later.

The box you originally saw was not completely full, but it was a pretty big box, and had a good amount of stuff.

We’ll start off slow, but we’ll end strong.

There were tons of accessories for many lines, and I have to say that I couldn’t match up what a lot of them went to.

These were all scattered in the box.  I sorted them into ones that I could identify, and ones I couldn’t.  The two bags above are the ones that I couldn’t immediately identify.  There’s enough there to supply an action figure war here!

Now we’ll take a look at the accessories that I could immediately identify.

Here we have a nice mix.  You can see King Hiss’s back armor plate, Rokkon’s laser, one of Modulok’s legs a random MOTU sword.  There are also two mask’s from M.A.S.K. figures.  One of them is Jackhammer’s, and he was my favorite toy from that line.  There’s also a couple of fists from old school Transformers. a glow in the dark grenade from the Toxic Crusaders line, a Battle Beasts weapon, and an Incredible Crash Dummies head.

But that’s not it, as far as accessories go!

I actually need a few of these TMNT accessories to go with figures in my collection.  Now all four turtles will have at least one of their trademark weapons!  The miniature canisters of ooze will nicely compliment my TMNT shelf.

Like I said, we’ll start off slow, so now we’ll pick up the pace.

Or maybe not.  These are the ones I have no need for(though, the guy in front of Wolverine looks cool).  I only could identify Wolverine, and I believe the guy in front of him is from The CORPS.  Anyone know who the other two are?

Here are some cool little guys, that I couldn’t identify, but are nice looking none the less.

The wizard is the only one that’s stamped, but I’ll need to get a magnifying glass, as it’s very hard to read.  All 3 of these will probably end up finding themselves displayed for all to see around Halloween.  I’m really loving that ghost!

Now we’re going to see my favorites of the lot.

Casey freakin’ Jones!  One of the coolest characters, and he’s only missing his golf club!  I was really excited to see him in the mix, with the accessories being a nice bonus.  Krang may be missing a tentacle, but I don’t mind, as I didn’t have Krang for my collection(you gotta start somewhere, right?).  The little troll guy looks both cool and familiar, but I can’t quite place where he’s from.  Anybody got any guesses?

Now we’re movin’!

Thunderbolt from Supernaturals!  These are some really nice figures.  There not very articulated, but the holograms is what makes these figures so cool.  I think this was the only one of the larger figures to not have a chest plate to cover his chest.  But he was not alone.

And lastly, we have See-Thru, also from the Supernaturals line.  When I was a kid I only got a few of these “Ghostling” figures, I never got any of the larger ones.  I prefer the look of the Ghostlings anyway.  My favorite was Mr. Lucky(he’s the one with the orange cloak).  Eventually, I would like to get all of the Ghostlings.  The weapons that were packed with these figures were glow-in-the-dark.  You can’t get much cooler than holograms and glow-in-the-dark combined.  I just wish I would come across deals like this more often.  :)
