Bat-Duck Completes the Team!

I finally found an acceptable price for this guy!  This has always been one of my all-time favorite Happy Meal promotions.  And Bat-Duck has always been my favorite of the 4.  He ran me $1.99 + $3.00 shipping.  $5.00 seems a little steep, but if you factor out the shipping, it seems like a pretty good deal.  Add to the fact that most of the listings for these are for the set of 4, and they are priced 4 times or more what I paid for the single figure(can I call it that?).  I only paid 50 cents for each of the other three, so I really can’t complain.

I know I bought a Bat-Duck from Ebay a few years ago, but he must of got lost in the shuffle(along with Delta Chameleon).

Seeing them all together makes for a pretty nice picture, don’t ‘ya think?

First Finds of the New Year

Posted in Video Games with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 11, 2013 by Jason

I have had a pretty good start for finds this year!

And I actually went a different route than I normally do when it comes to acquire things for my collections.

…Pawn shops!

I know this sounds like such a given, but you have to understand that pawn shops aren’t exactly abundant. In a nearby area to me, there are two of them. I’ve been to this area more times than I can count, but I always had an agenda of where I wanted/needed to go. I first spotted them a few months ago after a little driving around. This past weekend, I decided to checkout what they had.

Here’s the what the first one yielded.

036

I never had the pleasure(or displeasure), of playing either of these games before.  8 Eyes is basically a Castlevania clone, and Daydreamin’ Davey is decent from what I gleaned from the 5 minutes I tried it.  The gut at the shop wanted $5each.  He heard me groan, and said that $3 each was the best he could do.  I countered with 2 for $5, and he gladly accepted.  These are games I have not seen in the wild before, so they make for pretty good additions to the NES collection.

037

These 5 games, as well as what we’ll see next, are from the second of the 2 shops I checked out.

The store was having a 4 for $10 sale on all games not on a current console.  These 5 were the ones that caught my eye(although there were a few others that I need).  Mendel Palace is probably the most uncommon of the lot.  It’s a puzzle-like game that annoyed me when I tried it out.  Nothing super-rare, but nice additions nonetheless.

But the following is, perhaps, the best deal I found that day.

035

Any NES or SNES games complete in the box for $2.50 will get me every time.  There were a few other CIB games for these systems, but they were “otherwise marked”, so they didn’t apply to the deal.  Gyruss is missing the manual, but it’s the only one of the lot that I already have.  And on top of that, the copy I already had included the manual, which means I now have a complete copy.  The Super Nintendo games are not sought after, but again, I will buy CIB games for $2.50 a pop every day of the week.  $25 well spent!!

So Long, Nintendo Power.

Nintendo Power has released it’s final issue.

Even though I have hardly kept up with the publication for many years(due to my lack of being into systems when they’re current; with the exceptions of the NES & SNES), it’s sad to see them go.  This was the go to place for(Nintendo) video games in the years before the internet.

I have been a Nintendo loyalist since the NES arrived in my house.  As time went on, Nintendo was everywhere you looked.  In short, they were a big part of my childhood.  I remember when the first issue arrived in the mail.  I read that issue(as well as subsequent issues), from front to back countless times.

It was always a thrill to try the latest tips and tricks, and was always something to look forward to every 2 months(back in the early days).

Included with the final issue is a poster of every single issue of Nintendo Power.  I’m actually thinking about getting it framed.

Nintendo Power December 2012

The cover is a great throwback to the first issue, and is a fitting choice for the final.

This isn’t a review(if I did review it, it would be insanely long).  I just wanted to pay my respects to the only gaming magazine I really cared for.

But I will show a few pages to entice you to buy your own copy(or borrow it from one of your friends ;) ).

Raphael 2012

The fourth and final of Turtles, Raphael.

001

002

I was able to snag Raph for $7.77 at my local Wal-Mart about a month ago(Wal-Mart now has them priced at$8.88) Just like the rest of the Turtles, Raph was included with a “Ninja Arsenal.  He has the same 9 points of articulation as only the Turtles have, and a pretty decent range of motion.  His skin tone is also the darkest of the four, just as he is in the show.

003

You can see that his trademark crack wasn’t forgotten, which shows that the sculptors were paying attention.  This line so far, for me, has been aces.  And it looks like it’s sure to get even better.

004

There was enough attention to detail, that we are treated to having a Raphael figure that can hold one of his sais in his trademark manner(you know what I’m talking about).  I have to give Playmates an A+ for the amount of playability that the line has thus far.

005

The future looks promising for this line, and I’m excited to see how it’ll turn out.  The show is great, and the stores I have been to lately, have had most of their stock depleted.

Here’s the mean, lean, green incredible team.

League Assignment – Shelf Expression

Posted in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Toys with tags , , , , on November 28, 2012 by Jason

It’s been a little while since I participated in a League Assignment.

But, how could I resist this week’s assignment?

Post a photo of a shelf of items that displays your love for pop culture.

So, I wanted to go with one of my all time favorite franchises.

From comics, to movies, to toys, there isn’t much TMNT stuff that I don’t like.  This is probably less than half of my TMNT figure collection.  There’s a few other figures I need to fit on this shelf, as well as the figures from the new series.

But since I pretty much showed this in a previous post, I figures that I would post an additional photo from one of the shelves in my closet.

Take a look at some of the other shelves from around the League.

Brother Midnight had a nice shelf of toys including Krang’s Android Body over at Green Plastic Squirt Gun.

Reis has a cool shelf of bobble heads, and A Big Boy Bank(love it) at Lair of the Dork Horde.

And Chris shows off his awesome Master of the Universe collection at Random Nerdness.

Albany Comic Con : The Haul – Part III

Posted in Toys with tags , , , , , , on November 26, 2012 by Jason

So, we’ve seen some comics, some trading cards and some toys.  Well, today we’ll close out with a few more toys.  Action figures, to be exact.

Shockwave is mostly complete, as you can see.  When I made the purchase, everything looked to be in order.  When I got home and did some research, I found that one of the included guns does not go with this figure.  It is the same color, but the type of gun isn’t correct.  I’m sure that this was an honest mistake, and 7 dollars is fair for what I got.  The only real issue I have, is that the figure will not stay standing when I put his back pack on.  When I was a kid, I must’ve had this figure on 3 or 4 separate occasions.  Maybe it the design on his uniform, because version 2 of Storm Shadow had almost the same pattern, and I must’ve got him 3-4 times as well.

Major Bludd is the 3rd version of the figure, and was released as part of the Battle Corps line.  I found him in a $1.50 bin, but the seller(who I’ve dealt with in the past), said a dollar for him would be fine.  He has some type of harness on him, that doesn’t belong to him, but I don’t just want to chuck it.  Although the figure is stamped 1991, it was released in 1994.  I’m guessing this is just a repaint of an existing figure.  I like it though.

8 dollars for 2 Joes is a decent deal, considering that Shockwave has been on my want list for quite some time now(gotta wait ’til you find a price your comfortable with).

Monster Merchandise

Tonight’s post is brought to you by Monster Merchandise.

A few weeks back, Gavin from Monster Merchandise contacted me about promoting the brand here.  In return, I would receive a few complimentary t-shirts(an excellent deal in my opinion!).  The designs are horror and monster related, which is something I dig(as I’m sure some of you do as well).  There are some really nice designs, and I hope to see more in the future.

Here’s a couple of their selections.

I haven’t had a t-shirt with a pocket on the front since my freshman year of high school.  But I have never had a pocketed t-shirt that was this cool!  Take a closer look at that pocket.

Those are silhouettes of He-Man characters!  But that’s just the beginning!  The graphic on the back is what really attracted me to this shirt.

Frickin’ awesome!  No matter how much I always wanted the good guys to win, I always thought that the villains looked far cooler.  And you can’t get much cooler than Skeletor with shades on.

If I haven’t said it before(and if it’s not too obvious from the title of this blog), Friday the 13th is my favorite horror film franchise.  So the next shirt is an automatic win in my book.

This is a play on “Andre the Giant Has a Posse“, and it works well!  I only wish it was available in black.  I haven’t ever owned many white shirts, but that’s mostly because most white t-shirts don’t have designs that I like(from what I’ve seen).

The shirts are comfortable, and aren’t your run of the mill Fruit of the Looms.  These guys have more than just shirts though.  So please take a second, and give them a look.
